Chlmec

Chlmec (Hungarian: Helmecke) is a village and municipality in Humenné District in the Prešov Region of north-east Slovakia.

In historical records, the village was first mentioned in 1451. Before the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918, Chlmec was part of Zemplén County within the Kingdom of Hungary. From 1939 to 1944, it was part of the Slovak Republic. On 26 November 1944, the Red Army dislodged the Wehrmacht from Chlmec and it was once again part of Czechoslovakia.

The municipality lies at an altitude of 212 metres (696 ft)^[3] and covers an area of 7.91 km² (3.05 sq mi) (2024).^[4]

It has a population of 589 people (31 December 2024).^[6]

In year 2021 was 588 people by ethnicity 577 as Slovak, 22 as Rusyn, 10 as Not found out, 4 as Other, 1 as Czech, 1 as Ukrainian and 1 as Hungarian.

In year 2021 was 588 people by religion 506 from Roman Catholic Church, 31 from Greek Catholic Church, 30 from None, 8 from Eastern Orthodox Church, 8 from Not found out, 2 from Ad hoc movements, 1 from Other and not ascertained christian church, 1 from Other and 1 from Buddhism.
