Chlmec (Hungarian: Helmecke) is a village and municipality in Humenné District in the Prešov Region of north-east Slovakia.

History

In historical records, the village was first mentioned in 1451. Before the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918, Chlmec was part of Zemplén County within the Kingdom of Hungary. From 1939 to 1944, it was part of the Slovak Republic. On 26 November 1944, the Red Army dislodged the Wehrmacht from Chlmec and it was once again part of Czechoslovakia.

Geography

The municipality lies at an altitude of 212 metres (696 ft)[3] and covers an area of 7.91 km2 (3.05 sq mi) (2024).[4]
